All life’s greatest deeds are born from a dream. One day, a man called Alfredo Abreu dreamed that he could produce entirely different woodworking machines from what was then the norm. More than a dream it was a certainty. In this way, MIDA was born in 1951, "as Máquinas Industriais do Ave", later to be known as MIDA, the initials of the 4 letters of the name. These 4 letters would be known worldwide, but let us not tell the whole story now. The start-up is never easy, and MIDA’s own start-up wasn’t easy at all, thus the need to make machines in a different way. This difference would be the birthmark for all MIDA machines that would be produced in the next 50 years: Innovation and Reliability. Although the after war period was not easy for anyone, MIDA was successful enough to grow considerably so it moved out from its modest facility to a big brand new factory located only a few blocks away from the original factory. |
Having its inventive founder at the wheel, MIDA stood out in the national market by its technical and commercial strategies. Only after 10 years of its foundation, MIDA attended the LIGNA fair in Hanover with a 4-sided planer. Besides being the first Portuguese company (in its sector) to exhibit outside Portugal, it was also one of the first worldwide with this type of machine. In fact, the 4-sided planer was destined to become MIDA’s premium product. |
Along with its export efforts, MIDA developed a deep taste for innovative technologies and singular inventions. These constant research and development activities led to the perfectioning of the machines and grant several patents and prizes in international shows such as the International Inventors' Show in Brussels and the "USA Commissioner of Patents and Trademarks". MIDA’s last worldwide patent was granted in 2005. |
Over these 69 years of existence, MIDA has grown considerably, enough to have 2 factories, which cover an area of approximately xxxxx square meters. Nevertheless, all this growth and the honour of being synonym of 4-sided planer in many parts of the world has not let us forget our initial moto: Innovation and Reliability |
